A gravel bike is actually quite different from its CX sibling, in that it has a longer and more stable geometry. The frame is a little longer than a cyclocross and it is designed to be able to handle wider tires and sometimes even run 27.5 inch wheels instead of 29ers / 700c / 622. Gravel bikes often come prepared to fit mudguards and pannier racks. Wide handlebars give good control on winding gravel roads. Gravelbikes are available both with 2 and 1-piece drivetrain. The latter provides a compact crankset, fewer sources of error, no mud collector in a front derailleur and a much cleaner look. While a 2-piece drivetrain gives you more opportunity to keep the right cadence and not risk pedaling out at high speeds, nor miss an easy gear when going uphill.
